Get your dancing shoes ready! The final concert of the 2017 Arts Splash Concert Series will feature high-energy Latin music by Orquesta GarDel. Based out of Durham, Orquesta GarDel creates a one-of-a-kind Latin dance music experience with their thirteen member group that consists of a full set of horn players, percussionists, and coro singers. They came together in 2006 when UNC Chapel Hill ethnomusicology professor, David Garcia, teamed up with singer Nelson Delgado. Since then, the band has grown into a multi-generational group that combines Latino music veterans with African and Anglo-American jazzers. Orquesta GarDel writes their own arrangements rooted from the great salsa, cumbia, and merengue artists. As a result, edgy jazz and funky Cuban timba pour out from the stage and onto the dance floor at each of their performances.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at any of the locations. If there is a threat of rain, call 336.889.ARTS after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday to get the latest update for the event.
